Winemaking Update
ANDY ROBINSON | WINEMAKER
The final grapes are now tucked away in the cellar, marking the end of another harvest season—one that demanded quick hands, sharp instincts, and a lot of heart. There’s nothing quite like this time of year. While the vineyards rest in quiet slumber, the winery brims with activity as the young wines begin their slow transformation, hinting at something great to come
Each vintage tells a unique story, and the 2024 harvest will be remembered for its challenges and rewards in equal measure. From the first signs of veraison to the final night of picking, every step along the way has shaped the wines you’ll soon enjoy—wines crafted with intention, care, and tradition, just as they have been for generations.
This is the time of year when wine becomes more than just a drink—it becomes part of the moments that matter most. From intimate dinners to lively gatherings, a well-chosen bottle can set the tone and elevate any occasion. The wines in this club release are perfect companions for everything the holiday season brings. Our wines shine with hearty meals like roast turkey, prime rib, or braised lamb. Whether it’s an elaborate feast or an impromptu get-together, these wines are made for sharing.
This season’s club shipment celebrates something truly remarkable—wines born from old vines that have stood the test of time, nurtured across generations. Each vineyard has a story, and these wines capture the essence of Sonoma County’s heritage, with vines as old as a century or more. The challenges and rewards of harvest are deeply woven into every bottle, giving these releases an extra layer of meaning.
The 2022 Montafi Zinfandel, from a rare vineyard planted in 1926 in the Russian River Valley, showcases bold bramble fruit, black raspberry, and currant, lifted by cardamom and violet. A silky entry evolves into a defined mid-palate with a long, lingering finish—perfect for pairing with braised short ribs over creamy polenta. The 2022 San Lorenzo Heritage Red, awarded 93 points by Wine Spectator, is a special release from vines planted in 1892, offering layers of ripe blackberry, black cherry, and dark chocolate, with hints of holiday spices. Structured and vibrant, this wine pairs beautifully with a well-marbled ribeye or filet. Lastly, Saini Farms Zinfandel—sourced from 1926 plantings in Dry Creek Valley—delivers a captivating mix of cherry cola and blackberry pie, with nutmeg, cacao, and baking spice rounding out the finish. Ideal alongside duck breast with cherry balsamic reduction, aged gouda, or a meaty pasta ragù, this wine captures the essence of Sonoma’s old-vine heritage.
These wines are more than just expressions of Zinfandel and Heritage Reds—they represent a legacy, crafted from vineyards whose ancient roots yield fruit with unmatched depth, concentration, and character. From the cool pockets of the Russian River Valley to the sun-kissed benchlands of Dry Creek and Alexander Valley, with each vineyard lending its own unique personality, creating wines destined to be as unforgettable as the moments you’ll share with them.
The end of harvest always brings a moment of reflection. Every bottle in this release represents months of hard work and care, and it means the world to us that these wines will become part of your celebrations. Your continued support is what allows us to keep doing what we love—crafting wines that bring people together and create lasting memories.
