Winemaking Update
ANDY ROBINSON | WINEMAKER
As you’re reading this, we’re in the thick of harvest here at Seghesio Family Vineyards. September is almost here, and the vineyard is alive with the energy and excitement that only this time of year can bring. The summer, with its warmer-than-usual temperatures and a memorable July heat event, has led us to this moment—an early and vibrant harvest that’s now well underway.
The summer warmth pushed our grapes to ripen faster than expected, and now, under the cool, quiet cover of night, we’re bringing in the fruit that will define this year’s vintage. The July heat was a challenge, but it also offered us an opportunity to coax new depth and character from our Zinfandel grapes. The result is a harvest that’s rich with promise, as we carefully select each cluster and begin the journey from vine to bottle.
Harvest is a time of incredible intensity in the winery. The air is thick with the scent of fermenting grapes, and the sound of machinery hums as we crush, press, and begin the meticulous work of crafting the wines you’ll enjoy in the coming years. There’s nothing quite like the energy of this season—it’s a blend of hard work, tradition, and the thrill of seeing the fruits of the year’s labor come to fruition.
As we navigate this busy period, it’s impossible not to reflect on the broader cycle of our work. Each harvest is a culmination of months of care, but it’s also a beginning—a new chapter in the ongoing story of our vineyard. The decisions we make now will resonate in the wines we craft, shaping their character and defining the experiences they’ll bring to your table.
This September, as you uncork your club release, you’re not just opening a bottle of wine—you’re opening a piece of the 2022 vintage, a year that tested our skills and resilience. The challenges we faced—from unpredictable weather to the pressures of a demanding growing season—are all woven into these wines. Despite the hurdles, or perhaps because of them, the 2022 vintage has emerged with a character all its own, reflecting the hard work and dedication that went into every bottle.
Thank you for being part of our Seghesio family. Your passion for our wines fuels us through these long days and late nights, reminding us why we do what we do. Here’s to the harvest, to the wines we’ll soon create, and to the memories you’ll make with them.
Salute,
Andy Robinson
Omaggio is Here
We’re thrilled to introduce this month’s lineup of new releases for September: 2022 Home Ranch Zinfandel, 2022 Venom, and 2022 Marian’s Reserve. These exceptional wines are sure to delight, but we have something even more special for our members—exclusive access to handpicked selections from our winemaker to complement your club releases.
One of the highlight offerings this month is our highly anticipated 2022 Omaggio. This limited-production wine, our take on a Super Tuscan, embodies the dedication of two generations of the Seghesio family. Super Tuscans emerged in the 1970s, when Italian winemakers began blending traditional Sangiovese with international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, creating bold and innovative wines that broke away from tradition. Our 2022 Omaggio embraces this spirit, blending Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon to create a wine that is as complex as it is expressive. With just under 300 cases produced, Omaggio is one of our most exclusive offerings, and it sells out quickly each vintage. This is your opportunity to secure your allocation and savor a wine that honors our rich legacy
“Omaggio,” Italian for homage, is a tribute to our founders, Edoardo and Angela Seghesio, who planted their family’s first vineyard in America in 1895. Originally crafted to celebrate our vineyard’s Centennial in 1995, Omaggio has since become a cornerstone of our collection. The 2022 vintage continues this tradition with a blend that reflects the work and passion of our first and second generations.
Our 2022 vintage is a harmonious blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Sangiovese, offering deep notes of dark cassis, dark chocolate, and forest floor, balanced by vibrant flavors of wild cherry, violet, and vanilla. On the palate, the Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and depth, while the Sangiovese contributes bright acidity and a long, elegant finish.
This wine is a true expression of the Seghesio family’s commitment to crafting wines of character and distinction. We invite you to add this limited release to your collection and savor a piece of our heritage. Secure your bottle of 2022 Omaggio with this release—it’s an opportunity you won’t want to miss.
